The victims of a Hawke's Bay teacher jailed for indecent assault are struggling to come to terms with what happened.
Charles Harter was sentenced yesterday to three years and four months on nine charges of indecently assaulting nine girls aged between seven and 12.
The 63 year old music and drama teacher taught the girls at Havelock North Primary School.
Detective Sergeant Nic Clere says it's been very difficult for the families.
"They are devastated and certain members of that community are struggling with the offending that has happened and what has happened at sentencing."Clere says further girls have now come forward.
"It is still ongoing. Just like any case we are always welcome any complaint that we receive and we thoroughly investigate those. In this particular case we do have active investigations which we are following up on."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education is continuing to monitor its support for staff at Havelock North Primary School.Head of sector enablement and support, Katrina Casey, says ministry staff were at the school on a daily basis when the offending first came to light, helping staff restore normal routines.
Ms Casey says the school has largely returned to daily routines, and support will continue to be offered whenever needed.
Board of Trustee chair, Rachel Cornwall, says they hope the conclusion of the case will help families to heal and put the events behind them.
She says the entire school community was shocked and saddened by Harter's actions, but they've pulled together over the last few months.
