Blessie Trial: Registrar's column raises questions

Updated 7.11pm: The Blessie Gotingco murder trial continues today, despite a High Court registrar with ties to the trial writing an arguably prejudicial column.

The piece detailed conversations the registrar had with the victim's husband, Antonio Gotingco, and was published in an English-speaking Philippines publication.

It contained several prejudicial statements.

There was a possibility the trial might've been aborted if a member of the jury had seen the article.

Justice Minister Amy Adams says it's not a good look.

"I would imagine that it would be very clear for court staff that isn't appropriate. But in terms of the follow up in this case, that's an employment matter for them to go through."

The judge will take the rare step of asking each jury member whether they can be impartial.

NZME. reporter Rob Kidd says the judge addressed the jury this afternoon, telling them he'll speak to them all individually.

"They will all be spoken to once the evidence has been called to make sure they haven't read anything or seen anything online that may affect their opinion of the accused one way or the other."
