Canterbury University students prepping for O-week celebrations are being encouraged to register their house parties online.

Festivities amp up today with the university toga party.

Police and volunteer group Red Frogs are offering support and pancakes to house parties who register on the site goodone.org.nz.

Riccarton Neighbourhood Policing Team boss Sergeant Stephen Jones says students should make use of the party register.

"It's here to help people plan a party that's not going to cause trouble for them, for their friends, for their neighbours and for the police and it works out being a good one for everyone."
