The parents of a newborn child want answers from the Canterbury District Health Board after they were told to leave just two and a half hours after the birth.

Sianna Rose Keeley was born this week, only to be moved at 11:30 at night from Christchurch Women's Hospital due to a lack of space.

There were no beds at Lincoln Hospital or St George's either.

Andrew Keeley said he and his wife were then told to drive to Rangiora Hospital for a bed.

"Imagine, just imagine if this was a first time mother that had not had a baby before, or, worse still, whats say if they couldn't afford the petrol to drive from Christchurch to Rangiora? It's madness"
