The labour market in Canterbury is beginning to tighten again, as growth in construction levels off.
The latest ASB Cantometer shows the rapid growth the construction industry has enjoyed during the rebuild, is starting to trend sideways.
Senior economist Jane Turner says they're also seeing evidence the job market is becoming competitive again.
"In particular, we've seen quite a strong surge in wage growth. Wage growth is outstripping growth throughout the rest of the country, perhaps indicating that skill shortages are starting to creep up again."
