John Banks will spend Auckland's 175th Anniversary riding his motorbike and mulling over another mayoral bid.

The former Auckland City mayor is considering running against Len Brown in 2016.

He says the city is a place that's dear to his heart.

"It's a great place to do business, it's a great place for learning, it's culturally diverse, the beaches are superb, the fishing is great and people are generous."

The former Act leader was elected mayor of the former Auckland City in 2001 and again 2007.

Late last year a court quashed Banks' conviction for filling a false electoral return.

He says he loves the city and is seriously considering running against Len Brown for the super council mayoralty in 2016.

"It's a city of great prosperity and opportunity and therein lies the challenge for me but to be mayor for the third time would be really something again."
