Jail for part in baby-selling ring

| International News | Sunday March 11 2012 13:57

A New Zealand woman has been sentenced to five months in jail for her part in a baby-selling ring.

Carla Chambers, who now lives in Las Vegas, will also have to spend seven months on home arrest.

UT San Diego News reports a former reproductive law expert, Theresa Erickson, was also sentenced to five months in prison plus nine months home detention.

US attorney's office prosecutors want Erickson, Chambers and a third defendant, Maryland lawyer Hilary Neiman, to pay almost $1 million in restitution to victims of the scheme.

A hearing on how much the three should pay will be held at a future date.
