Team NZ to skip most pre-America's Cup events

By: Radio Sport staff | Latest Yachting News | Saturday December 29 2012 12:55

Team New Zealand claims it will boycott most of next year's America's Cup pre-regattas so it can focus solely on the main event.

The New Zealand Herald is reporting Team New Zealand boss Grant Dalton and the syndicate have decided to bypass three World Series events which are sailed in the scaled down AC45 catamarans.

Dalton says they're an unnecessary distraction when they should be focused on sailing their bigger, and more important AC72 - the boat the Louis Vuitton and America's Cup will be contested in.

He says he will send the youth team instead.
