Stunning comeback for Hamish Bond/Jade Uru

A remarkable turnaround from Hamish Bond and Jade Uru to win the men's pair at the National Rowing Championships in Twizel.

Bond and Uru have won their fifth title together rowing for the Southern RPC but not before stopping mid-race to make some repairs to their steering.

The London gold medallist says he was going to give up, but Uru convinced him to carry on.

"(It will) certainly be memorable that's for sure. It will be interesting to see the video on that one. I've never had that happen. Obviously you hear about it now and again and it does happen in training occasionally but certainly never had it happen like that in racing."

Bond was not so successful in the men's four, with his Southern crew finishing second to Eric Murray's Waikato four.
