The Government is being told to get its nose out of Auckland's urban planning.
Labour leader David Shearer is laying down the law over Housing Minister Nick Smith's call for new land on the city's fringes to be opened up for development and housing.
He says it shows the Government is out of touch and wedded to a 1950s version of urban sprawl.
Mr Shearer says Dr Smith should let Auckland Council handle the job of planning for the city's future.
