Labour: unemployment rate masked by kiwis off to Australia

| Latest Political News | Tuesday October 23 2012 16:35

The opposition claims the jobless rate would be worse if it wasn't for the fact thousands of Kiwis have been emigrating across the Tasman.

Labour MP David Parker's quizzed Finance Minister Bill English on the matter today asking what impact it could have had on the current 162,000 jobless figure.

"What does he estimate the number of unemployed would be were it not for the 170,000 people who have left for Australia under his watch?"

Mr English says he hasn't done the calculation, nor does he intend to because it's hypothetical.
