Hone Harawira contemplates Maori Party return

| Latest Political News | Wednesday January 23 2013 11:47

A return to the Maori Party is being contemplated by MP Hone Harawira - but there are some major barriers in the way.

Mr Harawira says he's been approached by a number of people and asked to put his hand up for the leadership of the ailing party.

Co-leader Tariana Turia is standing down, although Pita Sharples has no plans to go anywhere.

Mr Harawira says he's happy to talk to the Maori Party at this week's Ratana celebrations.

"We are not a party that will have any relationship with National, so for us to move forward, they would need to reconsider their relationship with National, and quite frankly, their relationship with National has been part and parcel of their demise."

Hone Harawira says he's not criticising the Maori Party - he genuinely wants to work with them.
