Courts taking violence against children seriously

By: Grayson Ottaway | New Zealand News | Friday February 15 2013 6:21

The Children's Commissioner wants the sadness surrounding the death of JJ Lawrence, turned into action.

Dr Russell Wills says the sentencing of Joel Loffley yesterday to life in prison, with a minimum non-parole period of 19 years, shows courts are taking violence against children seriously.

He says we need to identify when violence is occurring in our families and communities, and tell someone.

Dr Wills says that's how to turn the tragedy into some kind of action that's meaningful.
