Auckland no.1 in Australasia - World Travel Awards

Auckland has been named Australasia's top destination in the World Travel Awards.

It's beaten Sydney, Bora Bora, the Whitsunday Islands and Fiji's Yasawa Group for the title.

The city now goes on to compete in the World Travel Awards 2012 in New Delhi in December.

Auckland has also been announced as a finalist for the Sport City Award in the 2012 International Sports Event Management Awards, alongside Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Glasglow, London, Manchester and Melbourne.

Mayor Len Brown says the awards are a great Labour weekend present for the city.
