Hart falls to second on 2012 'Rich List'

By: James Williams | New Zealand News | Thursday July 26 2012 18:03

A Russian minerals mogul has knocked Graeme Hart off the top of New Zealand's rich list.

The National Business Review's decision to include significant foreign investors in this years list means Alexander Abramov sits at number one.

Mr Abramov is worth $7 billion and plans to visit our shores about twice a year to stay in a $40 million getaway he's building north of Whangarei.

But the NBR has been quick to point out that Graham Hart, who's now at number two, is still the wealthiest kiwi - worth $6 billion.

Investor Richard Chandler is third, with $5 billion, fourth is New York based hedge fund tycoon Julian Robertson with $3 billion and the Todd family rounds out the top 5.

Eight new people have joined our rich list including film director James Cameron.

The Prime Minister's also lost money - down $5 million to $50 million this year.
