New Zealand television's night of glitz and glamour has been canned.

Organisers of what used to be the Qantas Film and Television Awards have announced the end of the annual event.

It follows discussions with its major partners.

The awards have been through some turbulent times in the last few years with the loss of Qantas as a key sponsor in 2011 and then the Screen Directors' Guild pulling out at the beginning of last year.
