Birthday celebrations have been well and truly underway in Wellington as the city celebrates 150 years as the capital.
Thousands filled the city today as it opened its doors to many of its public institutions such as Premier House, Te Papa storage facilities and Government House.
The party then moved to parliament where Dave Dobbyn performed a selection of his greatest hits.
Party goers were then given a spectacular light show that lit up the old parliament building depicting a history of the city.
