The art of parkour is far older than many people realise, as this video footage from the 1930s shows.

Wearing formal clothing and sensible shoes, these athletes pushed the limits of what was possible with their strength and daring.

Parkour and the related discipline of freerunning has seen a resurgence in popularity thanks in part to being featured in films and TV shows, including a remarkable action sequence during the James Bond film Casino Royale.

The philosophy behind it is to conquer any obstacle in the urban environment, and to push the limits of what is possible.
