From December 16, Wellington will be home to the Southern Hemisphere's first fully electric passenger ferry.

The new East by West Ferry will begin operating on the Wellington to Days Bay route, and eventually to other harbour locations.

Covid-19 has delayed the project and subsequent sea trials, with the vessel originally meant to launch in the middle of last year, then in September this year.

Nick Mills went along for a ride on the ferry and spoke to East by West Managing Director Jeremy Ward, and several others, on board.
