Basketball more popular than rugby at school

Basketball New Zealand chief executive Iain Potter chats to Newstalk ZB's Heather du Plessis-Allan about the rise and rise of the sport's popularity. 

It comes after School Sport New Zealand Census figures reveal around 26,400 secondary school students played for a basketball team last year, up three percent from 2017.

Rugby figures dropped six percent from 2017, with around 25,300 students turning up on the pitch last year. The most popular sport is netball.
