Martin Devlin: NRL shouldn't resume until players know they're getting paid

Don't go Warriors. Do not board that plane on Sunday without first having heard when and what you are going to be paid.

This is your basic human right and the NRL can go get knotted until they are prepared to confirm the how and how much.

Let us remember that the players ARE the game. There is no game, no tv deals, no revenue without the players playing matches.

The reason, and let's be brutally honest here, the ONLY reason the  fish-heads want you back is so they can save the comp they've done their collective best to just about kill.

The NRL's grave financial crisis, compounded yes by the Covid19 outbreak, has in fact been caused by mismanagement and squandering of revenue over many recent seasons. The NRL were paid billions and they spent squillions.

That there is no cash reserves is of no fault of the players. That blame rests squarely with those so handsomely paid to do what they've clearly failed to do - protect, preserve and foster the sport for future generations.

Their incompetence will not be forgotten and, yes, there is plenty of time to eventually weedle and witch-hunt all those fatcats out, but let's save that 'til things get back on an even keel. Right now the priority is the players and in particular the Warriors players. We all have money worries. All of us.

Cashflow is essential for every business and every household. And for the Warriors players, expected to up and leave home for some months, the payment plan is the first duck to get in order. This needs to be solved and resolved ASAP.

It isn't too much to ask and delaying the restart until it's all sorted isn't either.

To quote from a movie we all know and know well, the whole situation can be summed up in this one sentence:

SHOW ME THE MONEY.
