Martin Devlin: Kevin Proctor biting incident is ridiculous

Is Kevin Proctor a biter? Yes.

Does this incident define his career? No.

The soap opera that this has become is just ridiculous.

And to everyone hacking the NRL for imposing the (perfectly legitimate) four week penalty, back off, they did only what they were compelled to do. All this nonsense about he couldn't breathe and only opened his mouth to gasp for air otherwise he would've died from being choked is just, how do I say nicely, BS. A big pile of steaming poop.

And as for Shaun Johnson's testimony, in a court of law he'd be declared a hostile witness. The more he changed his story, the more he tried to cover up the on-field incident, the worse in fact (for proctor) it looked.

From the moment the game finished SJ wanted the world to forget about the bite because he didn't want his mate's career tarnished with the charge.

Um, Shaun me old china, that doesn't mean it didn't happen it just means you're now trying to be judge and jury as well as the accuser. The judiciary was exactly right pressing you so hard in cross-examination. That's because you changed your story. On the field you said it was a bite. Then "on reflection" afterwards you said you "weren't so sure". When the ref sent Proctor off, Kevin never said " I didn't bite him". What he said was "he's choking me".

In other words he was attempting to defend his actions, not deny them. That is akin to an admission of guilt. Plus don't even start on this "but he only gummed him, it wasn't a proper bite" load of cobblers either. A bite is a nip is a chomp. There are NO degrees of biting, you either have or you haven't. Proctor opened his mouth around Johnson's arm and applied oral pressure. That is called a bite.

And no matter what he or anyone says, take the tackle Kev, it's called a Luis Suarez!
