Australians are looking forward to the trans-Tasman travel bubble.

The bubble starts at 11.59 tonight, meaning travellers won't have to quarantine when they travel between Australia and New Zealand.

Queensland Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe told the Weekend Collective Australians are excited about the bubble.

"Huge anticipation. People are really looking forward to seeing our Kiwi friends and family come back."

He says the state has a lot of tourism spots for Kiwis.

"There's so many Kiwis who would normally want to travel the world and look at fantastic locations across the globe, and in Queensland, we have it all."

Meanwhile, Australia's Prime Minister has hinted international travel may resume in the second half of this year for vaccinated Aussies under essential purposes.

Scott Morrison says it will depend on home quarantine being a success.

"If that works, then that means you've freed up your hotel quarantine, and that means essential workers can start to come in.

"Potentially we can do more with other populations in a very controlled and very safe way, but the idea that one day everything is going to open, that's not how this is going to happen."
