Some of New Zealand's tourism hotspots have picked up in activity this long weekend.

With lower restrictions and just the one active Covid-19 case in New Zealand, people's apprehension round getting out and abut has lifted somewhat.

Rotorua mayor Steve Chadwick told the Weekend Collective they've noticed a pick up in tourism this Queen's Birthday weekend.

"We're always very close to a pretty big market of Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga and a little bit south.

"Air New Zealand has put on extra flights and I thank them for that because that's what the tourism industry needed.

Ms Chadwick says a trans-tasman bubble would be huge to the town of Rotorua.
