All Blacks great Richie McCaw has called for calm after the standoff between New Zealand Rugby and the New Zealand Rugby Players' Association over private equity investment took an ugly turn.

McCaw, who led the All Blacks to World Cup triumphs in 2011 and 2015, told the Weekend Herald it was time for "reasoned debate" after another former captain David Kirk on Friday described a public spat between the organisations as a "one-way war of words".

Meanwhile, more than 70 people due to catch repatriation flights out of India to Australia have been told they cannot leave the country after dozens tested positive for coronavirus.

A total of 40 people tested positive for Covid-19 before boarding the flight, and 30 more were classed as close contacts of those positive cases, the ABC reports.

It means a total of 70 people are no longer able catch the repatriation flight, which had a total of 150 seats booked.

The flight is the first to return from India in more than two weeks, after the government imposed a temporary ban on Australian citizens returning from the country earlier this month.

And, Eagle Brewing founder and head brewer David Gaughan is under fire, after he comented on a news story on Facebook about a shooting in Napier, calling Māori "the scourge of New Zealand".

He went on to say the majority of the male population should be put in prison because they beat their partners and didn't care about society.

Tim Beveridge and Francesca Rudkin are joined by Mark Crysell to discuss these topics and the rest of the week's news
