The man who coined the term 'Rockstar Economy' says that the notion of a Wellness Budget has potential.
Jacinda Ardern has been selling her concept, which measures physical health, mental stability and how the country is faring alongside GDP, on the world stage this week.
Paul Bloxham, chief economist at HSBC, told the Weekend Collective that you need to look at broader objectives than just GDP
"There is a very big push in this direction across the international institutions."
Bloxham says that social welfare, the availability of housing, and infrastructure and the provision of services are areas that New Zealand is not as far ahead on as it should be.
"I think those are the things that carry a bit more weight than just looking at GDP."
However, Bloxham says that it's important not to discount GDP and employment indicators, as they are "very strong measures" on how the economy is growing.
"Those things ought to be in focus as well as these broader metrics."
