A boost for people in the arts sector affected by COVID-19.

The Arts Council of New Zealand has established a multi-million dollar emergency response package to support artists, groups and organisations.

Creative New Zealand is initially investing $4.5 million to kick start the package.

Arts Council chair Michael Moynahan says people will be able to apply for funding this week.

He says the fund is designed for larger organisations who can't put on events, and individuals who have seen their income drop significantly.
