The lead singer of the American band Tool has revealed he had Covid-19 while performing in New Zealand in late February.

Maynard James Keenan says a doctor here told him it wasn't the virus because he didn't have a fever.

In a podcast with Joe Rogan the singer admitted to not feeling well and being weak when he arrived in New Zealand.

A fan that was at a Spark Arena show tested positive for Covid-19 a few days later, becoming one of the first cases in the country.

Maynard was then diagnosed with Covid-19 in Hawaii.

Flicks.dot.co.nz editor Steve Newall told Francesca Rudkin it's lucky the singer hides at the back of the stage in the shadows.

He says Maynard isn't a hand-slapping, crowd-surfing frontman but the idea he was a Covid-19 super spreader is a bit weird.
