A few musical icons have been lost this week.

Singer-songwriter, author, actor-director and entrepreneur Michael Nesmith who will likely be best remembered as the wool-hatted, guitar-strumming member of the made-for-television rock band The Monkees died at 78.

Another icon we lost was Robbie Shakespeare, a Jamaican bass guitarist and record producer, best known as half of the reggae rhythm section and production duo Sly and Robbie with drummer Sly Dunbar.

And the Pacific Music Awards took place this week.

Jawsh 685 was one of the big winners as he took home three awards — Best Pacific Song, NZ On Air Radio Airplay Award and Streaming Award.

flicks.co.nz editor Steve Newall joined Francesca Rudkin.
