Sam Bloom was an adventure traveller, neurological nurse, mother of three boys, raising them on the northern beaches of Sydney with her husband Cameron.

Then one day in 2013 Sam fell from a balcony while on holiday in Thailand. She fell through a rotten safety barrier. Hr skull was fractured in several places, her brain badly bruised, both lungs ruptured and damage to her spine left Sam paralysed from the chest down

Sam’s extraordinary story of her journey back from the brink of death has inspired a major Hollywood movie, which is based off her first book Penguin Bloom.  But a new book – Sam Bloom: Heartache and Birdsong – tells Sam’s story in her own words for the first time.

She joined Francesca Rudkin to discuss her emotional and inspiring new work.
