When most people say they’ll take the long way home, it doesn’t include a 10 month, 20,000km bike ride from one side of the world to the other.

But that was the goal former Olympian Rebecca Wardell set herself when she decided to bike her way home from Lake Geneva in Switzerland to Lake Hawea in New Zealand.

She was joined part of the way by New Zealand rowers Emma Twigg and Sarah van Ballekom who helped plan the ride while working together for the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne.

Rebecca is back in New Zealand now, and around half way through her journey down the length of New Zealand. She joined Lorna Subritzky live from Picton to discuss her trip.
