The trans-Tasman criminal underworld has undergone some radical changes.
Australian motorcycle gangs, including the Mongols and Comancheros, have gained a foothold in New Zealand, expanding their numbers and generating conflict with existing New Zealand gangs.
Lately, spokespeople from various gangs have voiced concern with the incoming National Government, with one Mongrel Mob leader claiming it will create 'psychological war'.
NZ Herald investigative reporter Jared Savage has shed some light on the conflict in his new book 'Gangster's Paradise'.
"What we've had in the last 5-6 years is an introduction of Australian gangs such as the Mongols and Comancheros, who have established chapters here because they've been deported. They've come over- to do business and establish their own chapters."
