Online shopping might've just got a bit more expensive.
New tax laws kick in today, meaning international online retailers trading in New Zealand, that make more than $60,000 in sales a year, have to pay GST.
Retail NZ chief executive Greg Harford says it's only fair and it strengthens the integrity of the tax system.
"It's absolutely right that anyone doing business here should be playing by the same set of rules, and it's just really not right that for a number of years New Zealand retailers have been penalised by New Zealand government tax policies."
He says retailers can either absorb the cost, or hand it off to customers.
"For New Zealand retailers, this will take away a significant source of commercial disadvantage."
