Garage Project have always been about pushing the boundaries.

Founded in 2011, by Pete Gillespie, his friend Jos Ruffell and brother Ian, they started out in what Pete describes as an old graffiti covered, rat infested derelict petrol station in Aro Valley in Wellington.

An ambitious start to their very small craft beer set up – they brewed 24 beers in 24 weeks, presenting a new option to local beer lovers every Tuesday for six months.

Fast forward eight years and Garage Project is an award winning brewery that has certainly maintained the ethos of pushing the boundaries.

They have released a book, paying homage to not just the beers but the unique art work surrounding each can or bottle. The book is The Art of Beer. Founder and brewer Pete Gillespie joined Andrew Dickens to discuss how they went from local startup to national sensation.
