Scientists are urging “Rapid action” as they estimate up to 90 percent of seabirds are at risk of extinction.
A comprehensive review, focused on northern New Zealand, has identified multiple threats, grouping those into six categories – Invasive species, fisheries, climate change, disease, pollution and direct human impacts like coastal development.
Lead author Edin Whitehead from the University of Auckland is presenting this report to the Birds New Zealand Conference this morning. She joined The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin to share the research she has gathered from the review.
