New Zealand has the highest motor neurone disease death rate in the world – five times the global average according to a recent study.

Chris Shaw is a Professor of Neurology and Neurogenetics at Kings College in London, the Director of the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute and the Associate Director at the UK Dementia Research Institute.

He has led ground-breaking research into the genes that cause motor neuron disease and frontotemperal dementia.

Chris is in the country as a winner of the 2019 Kea World Class Awards, which also coincides with Motor Neuron awareness week, this week.

Professor Chris Shaw joined The Sunday Session with Francesca Rudkin.
