Will 'drip drip' effect of leaks end Simon Bridges?

Simon Bridges' troubles are far from over.

The National Party has been shaken by further leaks this week, with press gallery reporters being sent texts offering them internal polling results and early drafts of party policy.

One prominent leak this week came after MP Maggie Barry was accused of bullying in the media. The media was sent an internal email that was initially sent to National MP's telling them how to respond to questions.

Herald political reporter Lucy Bennett told Francesca Rudkin that emails like that to MP's are not unusual.

However, the continued leaks, which have come a month after the Jami-Lee Ross saga, are part of a 'drip drip' effort to undermine Bridges.

"It's nothing that's particularly damaging, but it's the fact that every other day there seems to be a leak.

She says she is not sure if he will end up being rolled as many critics have called for.

However, Bennett does not think the most recent 1News poll has damaged him.

"The National brand is still strong, he has not done any damage to it."

She suggests that if he is rolled, it will come right before the 2020 election similar to Labour.
