18,277 crosses have been laid out across the fields in front of Auckland’s War Memorial Museum.
Each cross carries the name of a New Zealander who died in World War I.
It is the National Field of Remembrance, set up to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Armistice, marking the end of the Great War.
One of the men behind the project is Graham Gibson, a Vietnam veteran, Vice Chair of the Fields of Remembrance Trust and Auckland RSA President.
He talked with Francesca Rudkin about how the project came about, the amount of work that went into it, and the importance of remembering World War I.Â
