It’s been a big week for New Zealanders in the entertainment industry.

A new trailer has been unveiled for Peter Jackson’s latest film Mortal Engines, which he wrote and produced.

Fellow Kiwi Christian Rivers directs his first movie, which includes the likes of Hugo Weaving in an epic storyy set hundreds of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event.

A mysterious young woman, Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), emerges as the only one who can stop London — now a giant, predator city on wheels — from devouring everything in its path.

Mortal Engines is set to release on December 6, 2018.

Meanwhile, rising Kiwi filmmaker Taika Waititi has been announced as one of the directors for the Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian.

The Thor: Ragnarok director will direct one episode of the eight-episode Disney series.

Lucasfilm has been tight lipped on details about the series but earlier this week issued a synopsis revealing more details.

"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerged in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergency of the First Order.

"We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic."

One of Waititi's earlier projects, What We Do In the Shadows, is also making headlines again, as the US adaptation will unveil footage for the first time tomorrow at New York Comic Con.
