Martin Devlin: What we learned from Chiefs, Ko and Warriors wins

What we learned from another wild sporting weekend:

The Chiefs are for real. No-one, and that is not a single person on planet rugby, is talking about the losing streak anymore.  Four wins on the trot, beating each of the other Super Rugby Aotearoa sides, puts Clayton McMillan's men in pole position to be the best of the rest and make the final.

Winners are grinners and the Chiefs deserve to be smiling with a season high crowd turning out to watch their team's best win of the last two years.

Have the Crusaders got worse or is everyone else on the improve? Because as the Chiefs continue to impress, it's the champs who regress.

Lydia Ko has still got it. Or certainly now proved she can regain it. Whether this will mean she goes on to get another Major remains to be seen but the significance of the win cannot be underestimated.

Been a long time between drinks for Lydia but, just like Justin Speith the week before, a win at last after four barren years will feel like her first. Hardly a challenging course, how can it be when half the field finishes twenty under the card, but that's neither here nor there. Lydia Ko has rediscovered her mojo. And how.

The Warriors might, just might, have turned the corner. Make no mistake about how important yesterday's win was. St George are certainly no mugs and after the horror loss to Manly last week the Warriors simply had to win. A 3-3 record after six rounds is actually a pretty good start.

Wins against the Titans, raiders and Dragons have all been hard-fought and well-deserved. The Manly result was so depressingly familiar - flat, disappointing, no obvious desire.

Yesterday though saw a new resolve, a desperation to stay in the fight, a determination to hang on and hang in despite another terrible injury toll.

Of course, it's always too early to say "this is our year", but if the club does make the finals, these are the sorts of wins you look back on and say "that was vital".
