Martin Devlin: Sevu Reece's try-scoring celebration was brilliant

Thank you Reiko Ioane! Thank you for responding in the only way I'd hoped you would. Something I thought wasn't worth debating instantly became so the moment Reiko commented. I'm talking about about the usual inane woke over-reaction to Sevu Reece imitating Reiko's cross-armed try-scoring celebration.

It was cheeky, it was intended, it was winners vs grinners  and most normal sport loving people I'm sure would've laughed along with it. But not the trolls on social media. The squealing , flapping, attention seeking crowd went ballistic as they always do. "it's disgraceful, it's insulting, I demand an apology"..the usual hysterics.

And I do find it tedious even responding to such but also think now more than ever it's important the rest of us push back as loudly and insanely as all the screamers shout. I thought what Sevu did was funny.

Reiko thought the same. It's classic "to the victor the spoils" stuff, aka sporting banter. The show-off strut that only those who play and/or love  sport understand. It's called expressing emotion, gamesmanship, one upmanship, giving it to one of your mates because you can.

To be on the outside looking in and be offended on behalf of someone that actually wasn't offended defines pathetic. Yet also utterly reflective of so much of social media and it's instant anonymous over-reactive BS.

If you don't find what Sevu did funny, then it's not worth me trying to explain it any further. If you don't get it then, sadly, you probably never will.
