Martin Devlin: Invitation ANZAC rugby team 'utter rubbish'

COMMENT:

En Oh spells NO.

One word, No.

It's going to be a very short piece today with the message delivered quick, sharp and with zero room for misinterpretation.

Memo to Rugby Australia's new interim CEO Rob Clarke, your idea of a "Wallabies vs ANZAC invitation rugby test" is utter nonsense.

Please take your stupid suggestion back to the Richard Head advertising agency you got it from and tell them we need another meaningless pointless sporting fixture like we all need a CV second wave.

Honestly? Dorks like this have been wrecking rugby for years and they need to be told very clearly where to get off. What's next Rob, a four conference 18-team comp that crosses five separate continents and multiple timezones? Sack your marketing department mate and give yourself an uppercut at the same time. Rob says "we need something new, something creative".

No we don't. What we need is to be rid of idiots like yourself who suggest this stuff.

And what we want is real sport, real competitions with matches that mean something. Stop reading your contrived focus group crap and ask some real fans for once. An "invitation ANZAC team"? Delivering what exactly? An irrelevant game of aerial ping pong with 35 tries that ends 85-65 to the Harlequins over the ANZACS? Go away and take your ponytail and your inter-office hot-desking with it.

We're sports fans. Bring us back our sport, games not gimmicks.
