Chiefs coach Colin Cooper concedes his side didn't cope with the Hurricanes.

The 'Canes eased to a 47-19 victory in their Super Rugby derby in the capital, leaving the hapless Chiefs last in the New Zealand conference for another week.

Cooper says the hosts took the game to them.

He says they struggled with the line speed.

The Hurricanes are firmly ensconced in second in the kiwi conference, nine clear of the Highlanders but seven back from the Crusaders.

Jordie Barrett's latest performance may have made Hurricanes coach John Plumtree's job a whole lot tougher.

Joride Barrett was instrumental in his side's victory, scoring two tries and clocking up 199 run metres. This is despite the fact last night was only Barrett's third appearance at fullback this year.

Coach John Plumtree says Barrett's performance was huge, which continues backline selection headaches for them.

He says it's good to have selection problems, as it shows the players are doing their jobs.

The Crusaders' winger had a field day during their 36-10 Super Rugby triumph over the Lions in Christchurch.

George Bridge and Sevu Reece have both scored two tries each, while combining for 213 attacking metres and 10 tackle busts.

Crusaders coach Scott Robertson says they thankful for being able to pick up Reece in the off-season.

He says Reece has taken his opportunities and Bridge showed his speed to score, so pretty impressive.

Meanwhile, the Highlanders thrashed the Sunwolves 52-nil in Tokyo, picking up their second straight win.

The Blues did not play this weekend.
