Green Party co-leader James Shaw won't say if he would be happy to see the back of Winston Peters, but reiterated he thinks the NZ First leader has been a disorganised and destructive force.

Current political polls are putting both Government coalition parties on the brink of missing out on Parliament, with the Greens around five per cent - while NZ First is closer to two per cent.

Asked by The Country's Jamie Mackay about his current thoughts on Peters, Shaw says that the coalition has worked together more than they've been given credit for. 

"It is much more of a balanced picture then what you see in the day-to-day media."

However, Shaw says that a more simplified coalition agreement would make for a smoother operation. 

He also says that his party supports opening the border - when it is safe to do so.

Several public figures, such as Sir John Key and Rob Fyfe, have called for the borders to be opened up to let more people, such as foreign students and investors, into the country. 

Shaw says that those procedures are being worked on by officials, but Melbourne shows the issues of a second wave.

"You end up in the same place that we were in back in March."

Shaw says we have limited quarantine facilities because of the huge "human infrastructure" - including health workers, police and defence force - that goes into each facility.

"When you talk about ramping it up, what you are talking about is recruiting more soldiers, more cops, murses, more doctors, more health officials, or pulling them away from other things to relocate them to the border.
