The NRL's salary cap will be reduced to AUD$9.02 million in 2021 as part of a deal struck between the league and its players, in the wake of the financial impact caused by Covid-19.

The NRL's confirmed a six percent drop in player payments for 2021 and 2022, with State of Origin match payments slashed to $15,000 per game.

The revised CBA deal ensures job security for players with every club to retain a top-30 squad, plus a minimum of three development list players.

Warriors CEO Cameron George told D'Arcy Waldegrave they had to reset the financial model for the sport, and everybody had to contribute in some way to help position the sport going forward.

"It puts the clubs and the games in a much better position on the back of what's been a pretty horrid time for everyone, let alone rugby league."
