Mike Hosking: Shane Jones can't be taken seriously

Every Friday morning, Mike Hosking takes you through the big-ticket items of the week and lets you know what he makes of it all.

Here's a taste of what he reckons.

Shane Jones.

3/10.

"Between the conflict of interest, the threat to National over donations, and his attack on Spark, he looks too ropey to be taken seriously.

Being jovial is one thing, being a bombastic smart arse is another."

Ron Mark.

4/10.

"Caps a very bad week for New Zealand First.

There is no question he was looking for votes as a Cabinet Minister and that, despite Ardern, having her fingers permanently in her ears going "la, la, la," is against the rules."

Jacinda Ardern.

4/10.

"You either want to be taken seriously or you don’t. Being nice and personable is good for cafes in Westmere, and selfies at schools.

But at some point, you actually have to put on the big people pants and take discipline a bit more seriously."

Spark Sport App.

7/10.

"At the trial launch it appears to have work.

Which is better than it might have been, given reports earlier in the week."

Italy's Stance on Vaccines.

8/10.

"No jab, no school, simple.

Maybe if we hardened up a bit here, nurses wouldn't be meeting people in car parks."

Tourist Tax.

4/10.

"Cut your losses, stop looking to tax everything that moves as a way of paying for stuff.

Don’t kill the golden tourism goose."

The Black Caps.

8/10.

"India aside, we've had a brilliant summer.

And winning a test in less than three days, that’s quality cricket."
