Every Friday morning, Mike Hosking takes you through the big ticket items of the week and lets you know what he makes of it all.

Vaping: 7. At last the government has moved, yes it’s a cessation tool, but it's also smoking 2.0. Fifty years on and they’ve been asleep at the wheel to the dangers.

The feebate: 8. It's gone and we can be grateful to NZ First. It was a ponzi scheme designed by a woman without a shred of economic understanding, but a head full of ideological mush.

This virus: 4. It's not to underestimate something we don’t understand, but it is too call out the ridiculous alarmism from the media, and the very real economic damage driven not by fact but by fear.

Tyson Fury: 9. Say what you want about boxing, but people pay for it and watch it by the million and the heavyweight division has an aura about it and fury is one of the truly great stories of modern sport given what he's fought back from.

Ardie Savea: 7. The ability to be good enough to follow your dreams is one to aspire to and one to enjoy watching in others.

Debt trap diplomacy: 6. The line of the week from the Amercians. They charge China with this in the Pacific. And yet given the virus and our reliance on a single market, surely the irony cant have passed us by, are we not victims as well?

Vernon Tava: 4. For a party that presumably needed cred and traction, a party secretary quitting and laying down the accusations we've heard this week, means Vernon's dream is toast. He's not sustainable at all.

South Carolina: 7. Sunday do or die for Biden.

Super Tuesday: 8. Do or die for at least another 3 of them. This is worth following because its gets more tense and fevered by the day.

Poverty statistics: 2. An embarrassing week for the government. Failed abysmally on their social calling card. The stats don’t lie, and this is a black and white own goal.

Kiwibuild: 2. Seven houses in December, seven houses in January. It will take a bit over 1,190 years to reach that promise. My mother and two of her friends could build houses faster.

The Skynest: 6. I'm not sure its as good as the skycouch, but innovation means you can sell to the world and clip the ticket along the way. And you cant mark Air New Zealand down on innovation.

NCEA changes: 4. I hated science, but even I get the madness of dulling down a subject we should be encouraging. So I'm with the teachers, and having lived through NCEA these past half dozen years, it's not a model that encourages excellence. It offers more choice yes, but in a very fudged, non-competitive who really cares kind of way. And that doesn’t serve our kids well.

The Topp Twins: 1. What was it they were quoted as saying in The Age newspaper 9 years back: only stay stuff if you're true to it. They sadly appear to have been badly caught out.
