Retailers on Auckland's K Road are hoping they won't become the next Albert Street.
Demolition starts today to make way for the City Rail Link's Karangahape station, with roadworks already littering the upper CBD street.
Heart of the City CEO Viv Beck told Mike Hosking with a new hardship fund in place, it's hoped there won't be a repeat of the Albert Street situation - where retailers were left languishing for months.
"The alliance that's managing this next phase of work has certainly heard the message about how they manage the impact is vital, and are showing signs of wanting to do things differently then done before."
The project directors say measures are in place to ensure access to nearby properties.
Beck says it seems a lot has been learnt.
"We've got the hardship fund now, but then the next piece is going to be critical as well. I think this is a positive development, but there is still quite a lot that needs to happen."
