Covid-19 extensions to travel insurance are avaliable, but they don't cover everything.  

That's the message from the Insurance Council ahead of next year.  

It wants travellers to keep in mind that big government decisions like lockdowns or cancelled flights won't usually be covered.  

Chief Executive Tim Grafton told Mike Hosking the extensions could still be helpful. 

“Those will typically cover you personally if you get Covid-19 and you have to cancel your travel, or If you have Covid-19 and you have costs to return home.”
