The climate levy being proposed in Auckland isn't likely to be rolled out in other parts of the country.
Auckland Mayor Phil Goff has proposed a new charge to fund public transport and tree-planting -- working out to about 57-dollars a year for the average household.
The idea still needs to be put to councillors and then put out to public feedback.
Local Government New Zealand President Stuart Crosby told Mike Hosking other councils will have other ways of funding their climate responses.
“Councils up and down New Zealand have different funding tools, and so most of it’s coming out of existing resources. In other words, changing the way in which you operate and adding existing resource.”
